Board Member Recruitment – Volunteer Position
Community Living Oakville (“CLO”) is seeking engaged and community-minded individuals for nomination to its Board of Directors.CLO is a dynamic, community-based organization that supports adults with developmental disabilities across Oakville and the surrounding areas. Through a range of programs and services, CLO empowers individuals to achieve their full potential through independent living, meaningful employment, and active participation in community life. With a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, CLO is committed to inclusion, advocacy, and person-centred supports that enable people to build rich and fulfilling lives.
As a Board, we are a caring group of community members who are passionate about giving back and supporting an often overlooked and vulnerable sector of our population. Board of Directors Role
The Board of Directors provides governance, strategic oversight, and stewardship of the organization. Board members are responsible for ensuring CLO remains aligned with its mission, financially sustainable, and accountable to the community it serves.Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing and monitoring governance policies and strategic direction
- Overseeing the performance of the Executive Director
- Ensuring financial accountability and long-term sustainability
- Supporting advocacy and community engagement efforts
- Attending and actively participating in monthly Board meetings and committee work
Desired Skills and Experience
As part of our ongoing board succession planning and commitment to diverse perspectives, CLO is particularly seeking candidates with expertise in:- Finance: CPA designation and/or strong financial oversight experience, including budgeting, financial reporting, risk management, or investment strategy
- Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising: Experience in brand development, communications strategy, donor engagement, fundraising campaigns, or community outreach
